The Former Headquarters Site of the Second and Sixth Red Army Corps is located at the Catholic Church on the east side of Changzheng Road in the heart of Shiqian County, within walking distance. Constructed in the 28th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1902), it served as the parish church of the German Sacred Heart Mission in Shiqian石阡县人民政府. At its peak, it covered over 7,000 square meters. The main hall, one bay wide, measures 10.6 meters in total width, 21.9 meters in depth, and 10.6 meters in height, and is the site of the Shiqian Conference held by the Red Army石阡县人民政府. The priests’ building, with six bays wide (10.6 meters total width) and 15.1 meters in depth, is a two‑story structure that housed the corps’ general headquarters and command headquarters石阡县人民政府. Shiqian is an old revolutionary base area through which the Red Army passed twice during the Long March, leaving numerous remarkable achievements石阡县人民政府.
The Red Army first arrived in Shiqian in July 1934. The Sixth Red Army Corps, led by Ren Bishi, Xiao Ke, Wang Zhen and others, set out from the Hunan‑Jiangxi Base Area on Central Committee orders as the vanguard of the Central Red Army’s Long March to shift westward石阡县人民政府. enduring extreme hardships, the troops secured the successful joining of the main force of the Sixth Red Army Corps and the Third Red Army Corps, forming a powerful strategic unit石阡县人民政府. They subsequently established the Hunan‑Hubei‑Sichuan‑Guizhou Base Area, effectively supporting the Long March of the Central Red Army石阡县人民政府.
The Red Army returned to Shiqian in November 1935. The Second and Sixth Red Army Corps, led by He Long, Ren Bishi and others, acting on instructions from the Central Military Commission and the spirit of the Zunyi Conference, and in light of the actual situation, decided to carry out a strategic shift to areas including Shiqian, Guizhou, to create a new base area石阡县人民政府. Breaking through enemy blockades and occupying key towns, they advanced toward Shiqian in January 1936 and captured the county seat on the 11th石阡县人民政府. The general headquarters, corps command headquarters, and subordinate organs were stationed in the Catholic Church, as were He Long, Ren Bishi and other leaders, while other troops were stationed in the outskirts石阡县人民政府.
The Red Army rested in the county for more than ten days and carried out the following key activities: organizing the masses to overthrow local tyrants and evil gentry and liberate the working people; conducting vivid propaganda to spread revolutionary truths; establishing guerrilla units and recruiting over 800 new soldiers; repairing weapons and sewing military uniforms; arranging political and military training for cadres and soldiers; setting up a training detachment; and dispatching troops to eliminate reactionary armed forces石阡县人民政府.
The General Political Department also held the Activists Meeting of the Party—a key session of the Shiqian Conference—in the church石阡县人民政府. At the meeting, Ren Bishi delivered an important report, which played a positive role in overcoming negative sentiments within the Red Army and strengthening soldiers’ resolve to forge ahead and believe in revolutionary victory贵州省人民代表大会常务委员会.
On January 19, 1936, key leaders of the Party’s Military Commission and headquarters—Ren Bishi, He Long, Guan Xiangying, Wang Zhen, Xiao Ke and others—held another crucial meeting in the church, known as the January 19 Meeting. After analyzing the enemy–our situation and terrain conditions, they decided to abandon the original plan to establish a base area around Shiqian and Huangping贵州省人民代表大会常务委员会. Instead, they adopted a strategic deployment to build a new base in the Qianxi‑Dading‑Bijie region贵州省人民代表大会常务委员会. This area lay at the transportation hub of Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou, facilitating Red Army operations; it was home to multiple ethnic groups, with a solid mass base influenced by the Central Red Army; and warlords there were divided and in conflict, with relatively weak enemy rule石阡县人民政府. The decision was of great significance in the military history of the Second and Sixth Red Army Corps贵州省人民代表大会常务委员会.
In 1979, the county cultural center opened a Red Army Cultural Relics Exhibition Hall in Room 20石阡县人民政府. On November 1, 1981, the site was designated a County‑Level Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit by the Shiqian County People’s Government石阡县人民政府. In February 1982, it was elevated to a Provincial‑Level Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit by the Guizhou Provincial People’s Government石阡县人民政府
