Zhongshan Park is located in the bustling Hedong District, a busy transit hub in Wuzhou. Bus Routes 2, 3, 7 and 10 can take you directly to the park at the foot of Beishan Hill from all parts of the city.

Formerly known as Beishan Hill or Chashan Hill in ancient times, Zhongshan Park is situated in the city centre. It was converted into a park in the 14th year of the Republic of China (1925) and named Zhongshan Park, making it the earliest park built in Wuzhou.

Perched on the summit of Beishan Hill is China’s earliest completed Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, a cultural relic protected at the autonomous regional level. The project was initiated by Li Jishen in March 1925. The exhibition hall mainly documents three visits made by Dr. Sun Yat-sen to Wuzhou from late 1921 to early 1922, during which he guided local residents in developing their hometown and regulating navigation on the Xijiang River.

The memorial hall is a magnificent building consisting of front and rear sections. The central part of the front block is a four-storey tower with a dome. Its east and west wings are two-storey exhibition rooms, while the rear block houses an auditorium seating one thousand people. Wide stone steps lead up to the main entrance, with more than 340 steps stretching from the hillside to the gate. In front of the gate lies a spacious square with a lotus pond in the centre, stone benches arranged around it, and leafy banyan trees offering pleasant shade.

Near the memorial hall hangs the Southern Han Bronze Bell, one of the oldest bronze bells in Guangxi. Cast in the 16th year of the Qianhe reign of the Southern Han Dynasty (958 AD), it is housed in the Morning Bell Pavilion on Beishan Hill. Having survived more than a thousand years, the bell remains intact and produces a resonant sound when struck. Beside the pavilion stand historical relics including stone steles from different dynasties and iron pillars once used for the Guijiang River pontoon bridge in the Ming Dynasty, open for visitors to admire.

The park also features a zoo with a wide variety of animals such as tigers, leopards, monkeys and birds. The Snake Garden combines sightseeing, shopping and catering, where visitors can taste snake meat and buy snake products. The North Garden on the hilltop is a secluded garden within the main park.

Built along the mountain slope, the whole park is covered with lush trees, blooming flowers and neat lawns. Winding paths lead to quiet corners. All landscapes are harmoniously integrated into one natural scenic complex. Today it ranks as Wuzhou’s largest scenic area with complete facilities and the largest number of tourists.
