According to legend, Linfen was the capital of Emperor Yao. Later generations built Yaomiao Temple and other buildings here to commemorate Yao’s great achievements.
Surviving structures include the Five Phoenix Tower, Guangyun Hall, Yao Well Pavilion and the Sleeping Palace.
Guangyun Hall is the main shrine dedicated to Emperor Yao. It stands 27 metres tall. The surrounding covered corridor contains 42 stone pillars carved with dragons and cloud patterns with exquisite craftsmanship.
The original Guangyun Hall was destroyed by fire, and the present building was reconstructed in recent years.
More than ten stone steles inside the temple record the remarkable feats of Emperor Yao
