Nestled along the Zhaowang River in downtown Heze, the Hebei-Shandong-Henan Border Region Revolutionary Memorial Hall is a large cross-provincial revolutionary history museum. Initiated and organized by veteran revolutionaries including Yang Dezhi, Duan Junyi and Zhao Jianmin, it was approved by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council. Jointly funded by Hebei, Shandong and Henan Provinces, generously supported by all walks of life in Heze, and subsidized by the central government and Guizhou Province, the memorial hall was built with joint efforts. General Secretary Jiang Zemin personally inscribed the official name of the memorial hall, and Premier Zhu Rongji allocated special funds for its construction.

The memorial hall laid its foundation in April 1998 and was completed and opened to the public in May 2000. Covering a land area of 198 mu with a construction area of over 11,700 square meters and a total investment of more than 40 million RMB, it integrates exhibition halls, a panorama gallery and a public square. Its main buildings consist of exhibition halls and a panorama painting gallery. The exhibition area includes a Preface Hall and four themed halls: A Single Spark Can Start a Prairie Fire, Bloody Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Fighting for the Central Plains, and Revolutionary Sons and Daughters. It comprehensively and systematically showcases the indomitable, fearless and heroic revolutionary spirit of the Party, government, military and civilians in the Hebei-Shandong-Henan Border Region during the 1930s and 1940s under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. The panoramic painting inside the gallery stands 17 meters high with a circumference of 123 meters. Seamlessly combining paintings, ground sculptures, lighting and stereo audio, it ranks among the top-tier panorama displays nationwide.

Approved by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council and jointly funded and constructed by Hebei, Shandong and Henan Provinces, this modern large cross-provincial revolutionary memorial hall sits beside the Zhaowang River in Heze. Spanning 198 mu with a building area of over 11,700 square meters, it unites exhibition halls, a panorama gallery and a public square. The exhibition zone, covering roughly 1,500 square meters, comprises a Preface Hall and four thematic galleries: A Single Spark Can Start a Prairie Fire, Bloody Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Campaigns on the Central Plains, and Revolutionary Sons and Daughters. It houses the country’s largest indoor ceramic mural as well as precious historical cultural relics.

The hall vividly reproduces the spectacular scene of the Battle of Yuncheng — the opening engagement of the Southwest Shandong Campaign in the summer of 1947. At that time, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army shifted from strategic defense to strategic counter-offensive. The Liu-Deng Army fearlessly crossed the Yellow River and launched the first battle of the Southwest Shandong Campaign.

The square boasts a green space of 54,000 square meters, planted with more than 20,000 high-grade trees of over 60 varieties and dotted with numerous artistic scenic spots. It serves not only as an important base for patriotic education and revolutionary tradition education, but also a pleasant leisure venue for citizens.
