Huxi Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery is situated in the southeast of downtown Shan County, at the junction of four provinces: Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan and Anhui. The cemetery was first built in 1945. In 1946, Kuomintang troops invaded Shan County and severely damaged the cemetery. It was renovated in 1952 by the former Huxi Prefectural Party Committee and renamed Huxi Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery.

In 1992, the CPC Shan County Committee and the People’s Government of Shan County mobilized cadres and residents across the county to donate more than 3 million RMB for the expansion and renovation of the cemetery. After reconstruction and expansion, the cemetery boasts over 20 buildings including west and south main gates, a Martyrs Memorial Tower, Memorial Hall, Memorial Pavilions, Martyrs Name Stele, individual tombs of renowned martyrs, mass martyr graves, arch bridges, elegant pavilions and corridors, and the Martyrs Gate. The cemetery holds the remains of 2,641 revolutionary martyrs who sacrificed their lives heroically during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the Liberation War, as well as the period of socialist revolution and construction.
