Scenic Introduction

Located in the heart of downtown Laiwu, Red Stone Park is bounded by Luzhong Avenue to the south, Wenyuan Avenue to the north, Gongyuan Road to the east and Changshao Road to the west. Covering a total area of approximately 54 hectares, it includes around 8.5 hectares of water surface, 3.9 hectares of green space and 0.45 hectares of roads and plazas. It is currently the largest comprehensive recreational venue in the urban area.
Construction of the park began in 1987, with Shandong Agricultural University undertaking its overall planning and design. The park is divided into eight themed zones: Children’s Fun World, Battlefield Banner Charm, Hundred Flowers Gallery, Pine and Crane Painting Scenery, Xueye Lake Glow, Fruit Grove Fragrance, Ancient Yecheng Customs, and China Soaring. Boasting distinctive design concepts and a well-proportioned layout, the park fully highlights local regional characteristics. It gets its name from the extensive exposed red rock formations scattered across the grounds.
According to research, these vividly hued, intricately patterned red stones date back over 100 million years to the Jurassic Period of the Mesozoic Era. Violent crustal movements during that era intensified topographic differentiation, while the climate gradually turned arid. Under the influence of continental basin sedimentary environments, massive thick red clastic rock sequences, collectively known as red beds, were formed.
Subsequently, intense Yanshanian Orogeny of the same geological period and long-term weathering and erosion left Jurassic red beds in Laiwu only preserved within the trough of the nearly east-west Bali Gou Syncline, distributed across Laicheng and its southeastern outskirts. The rocks are bright red fine-to-medium-grained feldspathic sandstone, hence the name "Red Stone".
