Local Transport: There are special tourist bus routes from downtown Pingdingshan directly to the scenic area.
Huameigu Scenic Area lies in Yaoshan Town in western Lushan County, on the northern foot of Shiren Mountain Scenic Spot, covering a total area of 30 square kilometres.
It is 100 kilometres away from Pingdingshan urban area and within 200 kilometres from Zhengzhou, Luoyang, Luohe and Xuchang. National Highway 311 runs through the scenic area, bringing favourable geographical location and convenient transportation.
Construction began in November 2002, and the scenic area officially opened to tourists in April 2004. In December 2004, it was approved as a provincial-level tourist attraction by Henan Provincial Tourism Administration.
Huameigu boasts abundant tourist resources including waterfalls, pools, caves, lakes, cliffs, peaks, streams, valleys, mountain flowers, fruit trees, sea of clouds and primeval forests, with more than 100 scenic spots in total.
The valley is filled with birdsong and blooming flowers, thick woods and fruitful trees. Clear water cascades down in a chain of waterfalls and pools, presenting different scenery in four seasons.
In spring, mountains turn green and hundreds of flowers bloom, especially azaleas in full blossom.
In summer, roaring waterfalls flow under thick shady foliage, bringing coolness like early spring.
In autumn, mountain forests are dyed red and wild fruits send out sweet fragrance, intoxicating every visitor.
In winter, the whole valley is wrapped in snow, with icy waterfalls and rime looking like carved jade.
Travellers can hike through valleys, admire waterfalls, appreciate azaleas, taste wild fruits, listen to birds singing, stay in farmhouses, explore mountain valleys and experience local folk customs. It is a perfect destination for holidaymaking, relaxation and sightseeing, allowing people to return to nature and regain simplicity.
At present, Huameigu Ecological Scenic Area has more than 80 farmhouse inns, capable of receiving over 2,000 tourists every day. The farmhouse homestays in Huameigu enjoy a high reputation across Pingdingshan region.
