Transportation Guide:
Shibaduo is tucked deep in the Funiu Mountains in western Lushan County, Henan Province. It boasts one of the best-preserved primeval mountain forests across the entire Huaihe River Basin.
Shibaduo Scenic Area sits on the border of Lushan County and Ruyang County, 100 kilometres away from downtown Pingdingshan. It belongs to the Waifang Mountain Range of the Funiu Mountains, covering around 60 square kilometres with an altitude ranging from 1,200 metres to 1,600 metres.
Located in the transition zone between warm temperate and subtropical climates, it has diversified climatic conditions. The primeval vegetation is well preserved and distributed vertically along the mountains.
As a mountain-type scenic spot, Shibaduo is famous for its valleys and primeval forests.
High mountain gorges match perfectly with natural pools and deep sinkholes. The peaks are magnificent and graceful, linked by a string of mountain springs and deep pools. The primeval forest holds endless mysterious charm.
On one side of the scenic area, the Taolin River runs through a 3-kilometre-long canyon flanked by steep precipices and towering competing peaks. The brook babbles over green stones, and fish and crabs swim as if floating in mid-air.
The flowing water forms the Black Dragon Pool, an unfathomable pool covering roughly 600 square metres that never fails to amaze visitors.
The White Dragon Curtain Waterfall plunges down with a drop of more than 80 metres, cutting through green peaks and crashing against white boulders. Splashing sprays look just like a white jade dragon dancing in the air.
In the primeval forest, tourists may hike along mountain ridges. Standing on the summits, you can overlook Shiren Mountain to the south, Taigu Stone to the west, rolling layered peaks to the east, and encircling mountain ranges to the north. Everywhere you see competing summits and rolling sea of forests.
The ancient woodland mixes time-honored trees with vibrant new life. Tall ancient trees pierce the sky, the ground is carpeted with flowers and grasses, and azaleas bloom luxuriantly. Native trees grow in countless shapes, including Huashan pine, silver pine, oak and mountain elm. New trees grow out of old trunks, while twisted ancient vines weave everywhere, offering a feast for the eyes.
Shibaduo is abundant in vivid pictographic rocks, with mini scenic spots spread all over the area:
Immortal Pointing the Way, Stone Man Teasing Stone Monkey, Old Monkey Carrying Baby Monkey, Camel Peak, Official Hat, Ghost Pass, General Guarding the Gate, Eight-Man Sedan Chair, Battlements of Heavenly Gate, Old Duck Stone, Cockscomb Stone and Heart-shaped Stone.
In addition, Immortal Pile and Roe Deer Pile are sculpted so lifelike that people can hardly tell rock formations from real creatures.
Shibaduo is like an elderly elder, whose crisscross wrinkles record tens of thousands of years of vicissitudes and fleeting time.
It is also like a young maiden, drawing visitors from all directions with its unique beauty and warm hospitality
