Scenic Spot Introduction
Mazu Temple is situated in Houtang Village, Nanpaihe Town, Huanghua City. Legend has it that Mazu once lived among local fishermen here. She guided them to go fishing at sea, pointed out directions when storms arose, and cured illnesses and averted disasters for the villagers. The fishermen respectfully called her "Master".
After she passed away, local people built a tomb in memory of her and prayed for blessings. In 1995, to revitalize traditional cultural heritage, villagers of Houtang raised 600,000 yuan to construct Mazu Temple on the site of the tomb. The temple enshrines Mazu and five other revered figures.
From then on, local fishermen come to burn incense and pray for blessings on the 1st and 15th day of each lunar month. They also trade goods during these gatherings, which gradually developed into a large-scale temple fair.
