Jingniang Lake Travel Guide

During the Lantern Festival in Wu’an City, where Jingniang Lake Scenic Area is located, there is a grand folk art activity commonly known as "Catching the Yellow Ghost". According to legend, this folk custom originated in the Ming Dynasty. It features more than one hundred roles, with four to five hundred participants. The performance starts at 2 a.m. and lasts until nightfall. This spectacular ancient Nuo ritual proves that Nuo culture also prevailed in northern China.

The road conditions leading to the lake are excellent, consisting of national highways and newly built tourist roads. During the peak tourist season, regular tourist shuttle buses and minivans run from downtown every day.

For self-driving visitors: Exit from the northern Handan interchange on the Beijing-Shenzhen Expressway, drive across the urban area, head west along National Highway 309 through Wu’an City to Shameng. Then continue northwest along the Pingshe Highway through Huoshui Township to reach the scenic area.

Several guest houses inside the scenic area provide lodging. Small restaurants can be found everywhere, and nearly every eatery serves fresh live carp caught directly from the lake. Wu’an hand-pulled noodles and donkey meat pancakes are local specialties available in most restaurants.
