The Ruins of Maosui’s Hometown are located in Xiaoluzhuang Village, Shizhai Town, Yuanyang County. Maosui was a retainer under Lord Pingyuan of the State of Zhao during the Warring States Period. To persuade the State of Chu to send troops to rescue Zhao, he volunteered for the mission, an episode known as "Maosui Recommends Himself". With eloquent arguments, he proved that "a glib tongue can match a million troops", and he possessed profound wisdom beneath an unassuming appearance.
A Maosui Temple once stood here, featuring three side chambers and numerous stone steles. The temple building is now lost, yet four original stone steles remain standing on the former temple site. Among them, the stele recording the temple’s founding, erected in the 13th year of the Republic of China, carries great historical value. Its inscription reads: "The Lu Village of the Mao clan is his hometown" and "Master Mao also studied under Guiguzi".
Local residents raised funds to build a stele pavilion here, housing three additional stone steles inscribed by archaeological experts from Beijing. The Maosui Temple site covers an area of approximately 875 square meters. A large earthen mound nearby serves as the ancestral cemetery of the Mao clan, spanning around 1,600 square meters.
The Main Hall of Maosui is the core building of Maosui’s Hometown. Construction broke ground in 1992 and took eight years to complete on the original site of the ancient Maosui Temple. The Pavilion of Maosui’s Self-Recommendation, built in 1988, stands on the central axis in front of the Main Hall as the central memorial structure of the scenic site.
The Ruins of Maosui’s Hometown are designated a Municipal Cultural Relic Protection Unit.
