White Cloud Temple – An Ancient Buddhist Temple with a Thousand Years of History
White Cloud Temple National Forest Park is situated in Huixian City on the southeastern foot of the Taihang Mountains. It was approved for construction and opened to visitors by the Ministry of Forestry in 1992. In 1999, the State Council designated it a national-level Taihang Macaque Nature Reserve. Covering a managed area of 2,591 hectares, the park boasts a forest coverage rate of 95%.
Dense forests and towering ancient trees thrive here, with four distinct seasons and a pleasant mild climate. The area abounds in natural resources and stunning scenery, featuring lush green bamboo groves filled with birdsong and floral fragrance. It combines the grandeur, precipitousness, grace, uniqueness and seclusion of mountain landscapes, integrating mountains, forests, waters, caves and an ancient temple all in one place. The scenic vista unfolds like a traditional Taihang ink wash painting depicting the poetic scene: "An ancient temple hidden deep in remote mountains, temple bells echoing amid white clouds".
Blessed with naturally crafted magnificent mountains and rivers, the forest park unites cultural relics and natural landscapes. It serves as an all-in-one destination for knowledge learning, popular science education, leisure, holiday getaways, fun activities, adventure exploration and wellness preservation. Film and television production studios from Beijing, Shanghai and Henan have shot more than ten motion pictures here, including The Gathering of Two Heroes, The Bell Rings at Qingliang Temple and The Story of Xiangyu. Its core scenic zones consist of the White Cloud Temple Zone, the Grand Buddha Hall Zone, the Bauhinia Mountain Zone and the Middle Lake Zone.
