Jixianli Residential Complex
Jixianli lies in the southeastern corner of Rugao City, to the west of Rugao Higher Normal School, and is now known as Mao Family Lane.
The name Jixianli dates back to the Northern Song Dynasty. The Wang clan once resided here, producing numerous jinshi holders and a top imperial examination scholar in successive generations. Local villagers took great pride in this, hence naming the neighbourhood Jixianli, which literally means "Alley of Gathered Virtuous Talents". It has long been hailed with the saying: "Golden tortoise seals adorn the gates; outstanding figures emerge generation after generation."
Four groups of Ming-dynasty buildings with a total of 45 rooms remain intact to this day. On June 5, 2006, the People’s Government of Jiangsu Province designated this architectural complex a Provincial-level Cultural Relic Protection Unit.
