Laojun Temple

Period: Qing Dynasty Location: Dongjincheng Village, Jincheng Township, Bo'ai County

The temple faces south. The existing main hall has three bays in width (10 metres) and two bays in depth (6 metres). Single-tier bracket sets of the one-block-two-lift type are arranged evenly under the eaves. Bracket sets are laid on every column head: two sets in the central bay and one set in each side bay, supported by a continuous horizontal tie beam.

The roof is covered with grey cylindrical tiles, decorated with large ridge ornaments on the main and sloping ridges, part of which were damaged during the Cultural Revolution. Two wooden columns stand inside the hall with hump-shaped brackets atop the capitals, and simple coloured paintings remain on the beam framework.

There are three side chambers on both the east and west sides of the main hall, plus three east and three west wing rooms in the front courtyard, all roofed with grey cylindrical tiles. To the east of the main gate stands the Hall of the God of Medicine with three rooms, fronted by three covered verandas, also covered with grey cylindrical tiles. Some sections of the main and sloping ridges have suffered damage. Two stone steles recording donations for temple renovations in the 36th and 38th years of the Kangxi reign are preserved inside the hall. Three west wing rooms are situated to the west of the main gate. All halls adopt the gable roof style and are covered with grey cylindrical tiles.

On June 16, 2008, the People's Government of Henan Province designated Laojun Temple as one of the Fifth Batch of Provincial Key Cultural Relic Protection Units
