Site of the State of Ge

Mencius · Duke Teng II records: "Tang dwelt in Bo, with the State of Ge as his neighbour." The State of Ge, ruled by Earl Ge, was located in present-day Ningling County, Shangqiu City.

The ancient capital stood at Gebotun in Ningling. The state was famous for the "Music of Earl Ge" during the Shang and Zhou dynasties. It is the ancestral birthplace of the surnames Ge, Zhuge and Gebo in China.
