Official Name: Wulasitai Grassland (Sky Grassland)
Level: National 3A-level tourist attraction
Location: Baiyanggou Town, Usu City, Tacheng Prefecture, northern foot of the Tianshan Mountains, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. It sits on the Tianshan Geographic Gallery along Provincial Highway S101 and marks the starting section of the spectacular mountain route of Duku Highway, around 60 kilometres from downtown Usu and 1.5 hours’ drive from Urumqi.
The word Wulasitai derives from Kazakh, meaning “platform on high mountains”, named after its flat, elevated terrain; in Mongolian, it refers to poplar trees matching the local poplar landscape in West Baiyanggou Valley携程.

Geographic & Natural Features
The core platform covers 800 mu of alpine meadow at an altitude of 2,100 metres, belonging to the vertical mountain pasture zone of the northern Tianshan Mountains.
Landscape layout: Layered natural scenery consisting of snow-capped Tianshan peaks in the distance, dense dark green spruce forests on mountain slopes, boundless emerald grassland in the middle ground, and clear mountain streams winding across the meadow.
Seasonal views: Lush green turf dotted with colourful wild blossoms from June to August; golden grasslands paired with colourful forest foliage in autumn; pure white snow blankets the whole plateau in winter.
Climate advantage: Cool and refreshing in summer, 5–8℃ lower than Urumqi urban area, a famous local summer retreat. Free-range cattle, sheep and horses scatter over the prairie, presenting the classic pastoral scene described in ancient Chinese poems: The sky stretches boundless, the wilderness vast; when the wind blows low the grass, grazing herds appear.
Cultural & Shooting Value
Nomadic Culture: A traditional settlement of Kazakh people. White yurts scatter across the grassland like pearls, with curling cooking smoke floating upward. Visitors can experience authentic nomadic life, including horse riding, tasting Kazakh milk tea, hand-served mutton and Borsok fried bread, as well as appreciating Kazakh embroidery, Dongbula musical performance and other intangible cultural heritage items.
