Zhentou Mountain is located in Houlou Village, Yangzhong Town, Youxi County, Sanming City. Separated from the Youxi River by only one mountain slope, it is reputed as a "natural ecological garden".
The forest park covers a total area of more than 398 hectares. Its highest point, Wangyantou (Xianling Summit), stands at an altitude of 976.4 meters, while the lowest point, Pingkeng Stream, is only 180 meters above sea level. The mountain is covered with over 8,000 mu of towering ancient trees, with a forest coverage rate reaching 97%.
The park mainly occupies the southeast-facing slope of Zhentou Mountain. Numerous streams wind through the undulating terrain. The ridges are steep and jagged, dotted with grotesque rock formations. There is a rich variety of rare tree species and protected wild animals. The climate is pleasant, free from extreme heat in summer and bitter cold in winter.
Based on its natural resources, the scenic area is divided into four zones: the comprehensive service zone, agricultural experience zone, mountain-top sightseeing zone, and forest adventure zone.
It boasts a great many natural landscapes including Mayao Race Cliff, Cliff Waterfall and Maiden Peak. Locals describe the terrain as "seven ridges, eight peaks, countless twists and turns, and ancient grotesque rocks". It is an eco-tourism destination integrating precipitous terrain, exotic scenery, seclusion and elegance.
Zhentou Mountain was designated a Fujian Provincial Forest Park in 2007.
The sea of clouds over Zhentou Mountain is just as spectacular as that of Huangshan Mountain, one of Huangshan’s four great wonders. The mist here is celebrated for its ever-changing forms.
Wispy fog drifts among the valleys and gradually fills the whole mountain range. The clouds seem within reach yet always just out of grasp, making visitors feel as if they are wandering in a misty fairyland riding on clouds.
At times the mist spreads like a boundless ocean, leaving only sharp peaks emerging like scattered islands.
Sometimes mountain ridges coil like winding dragons, flickering in and out of the cloud waves.
Occasionally the thick fog vanishes abruptly like a dream, revealing magnificent mountain scenery
