1. Basic Geographical Overview
Nestled among the valleys of the Karal Irtysh River, Zhuo'ert River, West Sha River and Haxiong Ditch, the scenic area lies 179 km away from downtown Fuhai, alongside the border highway leading to Hongshanzui Port. Covering a total river valley area of 8 square kilometers, it is a representative gold-bearing valley of the Altai Mountains, which earns the famous local saying: "Seventy-two gullies stretch across the Altai Mountains, and every gully hides gold". 2. Gold Mining History & Cultural Value
Zhuo'ert Valley carries a profound pioneering gold-mining history dating back over 2,300 years, when ancient tribes guarded this golden mountain territory. Large-scale gold excavation officially began in the Qing Dynasty, with historical records showing a single river channel once produced 7 kilograms of raw gold within one day. After China’s reform and opening-up, the West Sha River set another remarkable record of 1.76 kilograms of gold output via one standard sluice box per day.
Traces of the entire mining evolution are well-preserved along the riverbank: relics from primitive manual gold washing to modern large gold dredger operations. The whole valley functions as an open-air gold mining history museum, fully recording the hardships and persistence of generations of gold prospectors who pioneered this remote mountain land.
