The Kashgar River Daban Tourist Landscape Belt is situated 12 kilometres west of Nileke County seat, between the 174-kilometre and 175-kilometre markers of the provincial highway. It serves as the gateway to Nileke County and offers an ideal vantage point to admire the Kashgar River and the Ancient Poplar Wetland Scenic Area on the opposite bank.
Nileke boasts distinctive and abundant tourist resources, ranking among the most resource-rich areas in the Ili River Valley. Snow-capped mountains, spruce forests, alpine lakes, grasslands, hot springs, ancient poplar wetlands and historical sites together form a magnificent natural picture. In accordance with the overall tourism development master plan, the county has arranged its tourist attractions into "One Line and Three Zones": the Kashgar River Scenic Belt, the Tangbula Hundred-Mile Scenic Area in the east, the Jiltai Water Recreation Area in the centre, and the Ancient Poplar Wetland Scenic Area in the west. (Details of each scenic area are available separately.)
Surrounded by mountains and carpeted with lush grass, the area is traversed by the Kashgar River. It features both the vastness of grasslands and the gentleness of flowing streams, the grace of rolling mountains and the imposing expanse of sea-like spruce woods. As a local saying goes, the mountains of Nileke are broad-minded men, and its rivers are tender maidens. The harmonious landscape of mountains and rivers resembles a happy marriage between man and woman.
The first phase of the Kashgar River Daban Tourist Landscape Belt project involved a total investment of 8 million RMB. Completed facilities include a 418-metre-long and 8-metre-wide welcome road, a 400-metre-long ecological wooden boardwalk (covering approximately 1,200 square metres), and a wooden viewing platform. The boardwalk is paved with Siberian fir imported from Russia, which is highly rot-resistant, cold-proof and durable, perfectly adapting to the climate of Nileke.
In addition, a 10-kilometre ecological wooden boardwalk has also been built in the Ancient Poplar Wetland Scenic Area across the river. Covering a total area of 213,000 mu and stretching 110 kilometres along both banks of the Kashgar River, this wetland preserves one of China’s best-protected ancient poplar forests in western regions with outstanding ecological benefits. The scenic area is densely covered with towering ancient trees and fresh air, serving as an original natural oxygen bar.
Nileke County stretches 243 kilometres from east to west and 70 kilometres from north to south, shaped like a willow leaf. The stone before you is 2.43 metres long and 70 centimetres wide, taking on exactly the shape of a willow leaf. A tourist transportation map of the county is carved vividly onto the stone. Beside it lie three smaller stones, symbolizing the old saying: "Even a capable man needs support from others." Visitors may tie prayer ribbons and hang wish locks here to carry forward the traditional Chinese prayer culture.
Note: Admission is free. The site is 12 kilometres west of the county seat.
