Regional Culture of Kalpin

Kalpin was an important relay station on the ancient Silk Road with a long history. Human settlement here dates back to the Neolithic Age. There are altogether 13 sites along the ancient Silk Road mostly left from the Han and Tang dynasties. Among them, Qilan Ancient City and Kesletag Buddhist Temple are designated national key cultural relic protection units.

Kalpin Grand Canyon boasts magnificent scenery, and the red desert presents a unique landscape. More than 500,000 mu of primeval golden poplar forests grow within the county.
