Sand Lake, under Helan Mountains and on the bank of the Yellow River, is 38 kilometers away from Yinchuan, capital city of Ningxia. It covers a total area of 80.10 square kilometers, where over 20 square kilometers of desert and more than 40 square kilometers of waters are adjacent to each other. It has the magnificent scenery of Gobi desert and the beautiful scenery of southern part of China, hence known as a unique and rare cultural tourism resort.

The lake is near sands, and the sands are surrounded by clear water. The unique scenery makes it a first choice for tourism in the western China. It is a sea of sand, world of water, fairyland for fish, and paradise for birds evidenced by the picturesque lake, golden desert, graceful reeds, more than one million migratory birds, a wide variety of fish, and the combination of seven natural resources including golden sand, clear water, emerald reeds, flying birds, swimming fish, distant mountains and colorful lotuses.

“Green waves send the boats to the mountains far; there are guests from everywhere gathering on the sand bank.” Recreational activities are available in the sky, on the water, on the sand, and on the ground which are suitable for people of different ages. Such activities include powered flying parachute, camel riding on ancient road, sand sliding and surfing.
