The Phoenix Lake was once a shoal of a swift river. According to history, there was a temple called King Temple (Da Wang Temple), so the shoal was also named the Da Wang Tan shoal. During the Great Leap Forward period, the local government constructed a reservoir, blocking water at the foot of the Phoenix Hill. The reservoir has a water containing capacity of 540,000,000 cubic meters, which can irrigate more than 200,000 acres of land and raise a great number of fish. Since then, the reservoir area has become a famous scenic area and it is often called Phoenix Lake.
