Chagan Lake Tourist Resort covers a total area of 600 square kilometers. Chagan Lake, called Qagan nur in Mongolia, means a white and holy lake. Chagan Lake, with water area of 420 square kilometers, is one of the top ten freshwater lakes in China, the largest inland lake in Jilin Province, a famous production base of fish and reeds in Jilin Province, and a well-known tourist destination. The lake, with rich natural resources, is abound in 15 families of 68 fish species, including carp, chub, and crucian, with annual output of over 6,000 tons of fresh fish. There are over 200 kinds of wild animals, over 80 kinds of rare birds, and 200 kinds of wild plants including 149 kinds of medicinal plants. The main scenic spots include Miaoyin Temple, Genghis Khan Mausoleum, Royal Highness Mansion Commercial Street, Honghu Building (Large Swan Building), Qinghshantou Site, Water Playground, ecological and recreational fishing field, prairie racetrack, and civilian shooting club. Winter fishing in Chagan Lake is known as “catching fish in icy lake”, which has been well-known since the Liao and Jin dynasties. “Sacrificing lake and awakening net” is the most mysterious link for the winter fishing and the representative of the fishing culture in North China, for which the fishing graffer sing words of sacrificing and people dance Chama dance, read Buddhist scriptures, offers sacrifices to lake gods and ancestors, and drink departure wine. The whole process owns strong ethnic features and mysterious color.
