The 600-meter-wide Lujiang Channel between Gulangyu Island and Xiamen Island got its name because of the flocks of egrets that are often seen hovering above (“Lujiang” literally means “Egret River”).
Lujiang Avenue, nicknamed “the Bund of Xiamen”, is lined by century-old arcade houses and buildings of classical architectural styles, constituting a unique tourist attraction.
