Traditional French dishes and flavors, such as foie gras, juicy steaks, and delicate pastries, dishes and snacks which tend to be crowd pleasers, are available in Wuhan. In this article, we have handpicked three authentic French restaurants for your spring indulgence.

Bistro 98 at Xinhua Novotel Hotel (新华诺富特酒店Bistro 98)

Located in the 5-star Xinhua Novotel Hotel, Bistro 98 is one of the oldest and most authentic French restaurants in Wuhan. The chef, Stephane, came to Wuhan from Brittany, a city in northern France. In his restaurant, he serves authentic, gourmet French food. Stephane says French cuisine is extremely diverse. The people of northern France use a variety of cooking ingredients when preparing meals. Lobster topped with American-style dressing is a dish recommended by the chef. Its rich flavor tends to be well-received by the people of Wuhan. The restaurant also has an excellent Coq au vin, a traditional French chicken dish which is complicated to prepare but quite pleasant to eat. The Coq au vin is one of the best dishes on the menu. This restaurant also serves many other French favorites, like tarte tatin and creme brulee.

Most of the cooking ingredients used at Bistro 98 are imported from France. This allows the staff to guarantee genuine French flavors.

This restaurant has introduced a new culinary vision and modern French cuisine to Wuhan.

Its four-course meals allow diners to enjoy a variety of flavors at a relaxed pace. The meal starts with a light appetizer, often composed of Mediterranean-style seafood; followed by a heartier second course, cuttlefish with Jamón Ibérico Consomme; then customers will be feasting on liquid nitrogen wagyu beef and codfish cooked at the table. The wagyu beef is juicy and tender; the strong flavor combined with the succulent fresh codfish makes this dish very delicious. In the end, lemon and raspberry tart completes a four-course dinner with light sweetness. It ideally leaves a diner's palate refreshed.

French crepe

Representative French dishes are available at New World Hotel. I most enjoyed the traditional French crepes and the seafood soup.

The crepes were rather popular among the women at the banquet. In order to prepare these properly, the chef placed the thin crepes in the frying pan; then he added a spoonful of fresh cream, two pieces of either a banana or peach, and the folded the combination into a delicious wrap. Also, you can add peanut cream or fruit jam to your crepes. When you take a bite, the fine cream will overwhelm your taste buds.

The seafood soup was a completely different experience. To prepare the soup, the chef fried pieces of squid, shrimp, and onions and then boiled them in a big pot with a collection of vegetables. The flavor of this type of soup is not particularly strong, but you can experience the full taste of the sea.
