Chilang Gorge is situated at the southeastern end of Chilang Village, where the Bengbupu Qu River flows into the Yarlung Tsangpo River. The gorge stretches approximately 800 meters long, with an altitude of 3,760 meters at the confluence. The riverbed within the gorge is merely 7 meters wide. Along the valley slope where the highway runs 100 meters above the water surface, the width measures only 70 meters. With slopes on both banks approaching 70 degrees, it features a typical gorge landform.
Well-developed high river terraces lie on the right bank, covered by river gravel layers up to 40 meters thick. The landscape is spectacular and precipitous, vividly presenting the geomorphological evolution of the Bengbupu Qu River cutting deeply into the Yarlung Tsangpo River.
