Cultural Relic Sites of the Goguryeo Period in Changbai County

Goguryeo (37 BC — 668 AD) was an ethnic regime that existed in Northeast China and the Korean Peninsula from the 1st century BC to the 7th century AD.
Pottery rims, pottery bottle bases, pottery handles, stone knives and other artefacts have been unearthed at Xiaweizi and other sites in Shisandaogou, Changbai Korean Autonomous County. These relics bear close similarities to other Goguryeo cultural remains.
The sites date back to the late primitive society and remained inhabited throughout the Goguryeo era. Their earliest cultural layer can be traced to the Warring States Period, and the latest to the Goguryeo Dynasty.
Cord-patterned flat tiles, semicircular cylindrical tiles, bronze hairpins and other relics were discovered near Xinfangzi Village of Xinfangzi Town, which resemble cultural relics of the Bohai Period.
Ancient village settlements and mountain pass sites were found in Shisidaogou Village, together with iron cauldrons, grey flat tiles, grey pottery rims with pointed lips, stone axes and stone adzes.
The cultural artefacts excavated from these villages and pass fortifications are consistent with those unearthed from Goguryeo village and pass sites in Ji’an City.
