Lingguang Temple

Lingguang Temple stands on the hillside east of Tashan Park, facing south toward Changbai County seat. Approved by the religious authorities for reconstruction in 2001, the temple now covers an area of more than 10,000 square metres, with a total construction area of 1,404 square metres and a total investment of approximately 5 million yuan. A grand consecration ceremony for the entire temple was held on June 20, 2009.

The Bell Tower and Drum Tower flank the main entrance. In the centre of the compound stand the Heavenly King Hall, the Mahavira Hall and the Buddhist pagoda. On the eastern side are the Ksitigarbha Hall, Medicine Buddha Hall and Manjushri Bodhisattva Hall. The western side includes the Earth Treasury Hall, Guanyin Bodhisattva Hall and guest quarters for monks.

The buildings of Lingguang Temple are magnificent, solemn and simple. The gilded clay Buddha statues have vivid facial expressions. The architecture features upturned eaves carved with animal ornaments and patterned glazed tiles. The imposing temple compound, stately halls and towering pagoda embody Buddhist traditions and highlight the distinctive cultural charm of Changbai.

Today it has become a standardized Buddhist monastery across the province, a harmonious Buddhist sacred place, and a major platform for religious exchanges among local Buddhist believers. It has hosted multiple consecration rituals attended by eminent monks from inside and outside the province, as well as prayer ceremonies to transcend souls for victims of the Wenchuan Earthquake.

Lingguang Temple is not only a scenic cultural landmark in Changbai County, but also a sacred Buddhist site where devotees burn incense and pay homage to Buddha.
