The museum stands to the east of Horinger Tuchengzi Site, a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level, covering a land area of 40,000 square metres.
The main building adopts an eco-friendly semi-underground earth-covered architectural style. Visitors may climb to the rooftop of the above-ground section for a panoramic overlook of the ancient Shengle City. The museum highlights the long-standing history and splendid regional culture of Horinger, disseminates the local history as well as the history and culture of the Xianbei people, and presents the charm of the “First Capital on the Grassland”. It serves as a vital venue for cadres, residents, teachers and students to cultivate patriotism, forge national spirit and carry out social science popularization education.

Horinger Shengle Museum houses five exhibition halls, alongside a tourist service centre and green food exhibition centre in Shengle Town.

1. Comprehensive Exhibition of Horinger’s History from Ancient Times to Modern Era

Drawing on detailed cultural relics and historical materials, this exhibition traces the historical evolution of Horinger from the Neolithic Age 6,000 years ago to modern times. It displays major historical events and prominent figures of the region, and restores the real development of politics, economy and culture throughout Horinger’s history.

2. Special Exhibition of Xianbei History and Culture

Based on archaeological discoveries of the Xianbei and Northern Wei dynasties in Shengle, combined with figure sculptures, scene murals, charts and multi-media audio-visual displays, this exhibition narrates the full historical journey of the Tuoba Xianbei people: they left the mountains from Gaxian Cave, migrated south twice; their ancestor Tuoba Weili laid the foundation at Shengle; Emperor Mu Tuoba Yilu founded the Dai State; and Emperor Daowu Tuoba Gui established the Northern Wei Dynasty. It embodies ethnic integration, cultural progress, as well as the open and inclusive traits of Xianbei culture.

3. Restored Exhibition of Eastern Han Mural Tomb in Horinger

The Eastern Han mural tomb of the Colonel Protector of the Wuhuan with Imperial Credentials is located in Xindianzi Town, Horinger County. It is an iconic physical relic of the Qin and Han cultures, an authentic representation of the manor system in the Eastern Han Dynasty, and crucial historical evidence of ethnic unity. The museum has built a 1:1.5 full-scale replica open to visitors.

Green Food Exhibition Centre

The tourist service centre of Shengle Town sits at the town’s core. Horinger County positions Shengle Town as an industrial hub for green food, a livable and business-friendly town, and a distinctive tourist destination.
Integrating historical cultural tourism, eco-tourism, green industrial tourism and rural tourism, the county focuses on developing ecology, livability and sightseeing. Inside the tourist service centre, a dedicated exhibition zone for green food showcases products from 17 enterprises including Mengniu, Mengyang and Shengmu High-Tech.
