History and Culture of Kangping County

Kangping County has a long history belonging to the Xinle and Hongshan cultural civilizations. Humans began to live and multiply here approximately 7,000 years ago.

In the early Qing Dynasty, this area was the fief of three Mongolian banners: Darhan, Botolegatai and Bintu. It was a nomadic region of Inner Mongolia with a sparse population. The ban on land reclamation was lifted in 1802 (the 7th year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty), attracting a large number of migrants from Hebei and Shandong Provinces who came to cultivate farmland and settle down.

Before the establishment of the county administration, Kangping fell under the jurisdiction of Changtu Prefecture. In June 1880 (the 6th year of the Guangxu reign), the Qing imperial court approved the founding of a county with its administrative centre located at Kangjiatun. Hence the name Kangping, which means peace, happiness and prosperity.

Kangping was liberated on November 17, 1947. After liberation, it was successively under the administration of Western Liaoning Province and Liaoning Province. In 1993, its jurisdiction was transferred from Tieling City to Shenyang City.

Up to now, archaeologists have discovered 20 Neolithic cultural sites and 71 Bronze Age cultural relic sites within the county.
