Approved by relevant central authorities, the cemetery was designed and started construction in 1968 and completed in 1970, in memory of revolutionary martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the Battle of Xiushuhezi, known as "the first victory of annihilation in the Northeast Liberation War". It is a Grade II Cultural Heritage Protection Unit.
Since 2008, a total of 3.8 million yuan of provincial and municipal funds has been raised for renovation projects. The complex includes the Monument to Martyrs of the Xiushuhezi Annihilation Battle, the Memorial Hall of the Xiushuhezi Battle, a stone carving wall, 84 martyr tombs, boundary walls and a main gate.
The memorial hall preserves wartime photographs, historical pictures, martyrs’ relics, battle documents and victory dispatches. More than 800 martyrs who died in the battle are buried here. The cemetery has received numerous leading cadres from central, provincial, municipal and county authorities.
