Perched on the mountain ridge at the boundary between Yun'ao and Shen'ao, Xiongzhen Pass was constructed in the 13th year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty. It served as a vital ancient mountain pass linking the two towns of Yun'ao and Shen'ao.
According to the Records of Nan'ao compiled in the Qing Dynasty: "General Qi Jiguang routed Wu Ping’s troops through this pass." This historical record illustrates the pass’s great historical significance, as well as its crucial role in garrisoning Nan'ao and reinforcing coastal defence. Hailed as one of China’s famous strategic passes, it has long been valued by military strategists and sought-after by tourists.
