Maritime Silk Road Square

Maritime Silk Road Square is the core project of Jin'ao Bay under the Nan'ao Island Blue Bay Rehabilitation Initiative. In June 2017, Nan'ao County launched the Blue Bay Rehabilitation Initiative with a total investment of 315 million yuan. The project carries out remediation and ecological restoration on five bays including Jin'ao Bay, the Ten-Mile Silver Beach of Chishi Bay, Yandun Bay, Zhuxidu Bay and Longmen Bay, while further enhancing marine environmental monitoring capacity.
The square consists of an upper terrace and a lower terrace, equipped with tourist facilities such as sea-view platforms, sightseeing pavilions, sea-view connecting bridges, coastal boardwalks, thematic sculptures, large natural stone landscapes and ornamental lighting columns. The sculptures scattered across the square feature varied and vivid shapes, as if narrating the historical tales that unfolded in these coastal waters to visitors. In both layout and thematic content, the square fully interprets Nan'ao’s cultural connotation as a key node on the ancient Maritime Silk Road, and embodies the philosophy of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature.
The implementation of the Nan'ao Island Blue Bay Rehabilitation Initiative helps restore the natural coastal scenery of Nan'ao’s Chishi Bay Ten-Mile Silver Beach, Yandun Bay, Zhuxidu Bay, Longmen Bay and Jin'ao Bay. It improves coastal ecological conditions, optimizes public coastal access spaces, beautifies waterfront landscapes, and drives the upgrading of municipal and public service facilities along major urban arterial roads on Nan'ao Island.
Work under the initiative includes cleaning litter and waste from beach surfaces, regulating sewage outlets, and dismantling aquaculture facilities that occupy tidal flats, so as to restore clean and picturesque beaches. By constructing coastal parks and ecological seawalls, the project expands publicly accessible shorelines and tidal flats, creating unique bay-front leisure spaces for the public.
The completion of the project will help Nan'ao achieve its development goal of "clear blue seas, pure white sands, beautiful bays and stunning islets". It bears vital and far-reaching significance for Nan'ao’s bid to build a national AAAAA-level tourist resort and an internationally high-end tourist island, showcase the island’s unique natural and cultural charms, and elevate the influence and reputation of Nan'ao’s tourism brand.
