Chongyin Temple stands on the north side of East Hengshan Road in Zhengding County, Shijiazhuang. It is one of the Eight Great Temples of Zhengding. Its original construction date remains unknown. According to Zhengding County Annals compiled in the first year of the Guangxu reign (1875), the temple was rebuilt in the 35th year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1607) through donations raised by the monk Wuyi.
At its heyday, the main buildings were arranged from south to north in the following order: glazed screen wall, Beamless Hall, Bell Tower, Drum Tower, Heavenly King Hall, East and West Side Halls, Vairocana Hall and Scripture Repository. In 1959, Vairocana Hall was relocated to Longxing Temple in Zhengding. Today, only the Scripture Repository and the glazed screen wall are preserved on the original site.
The two-storey Scripture Repository features five bays in width and two bays in depth, topped with a grey tile hard gable roof. The glazed screen wall is situated 140 meters to the south of the repository. Its main body is built of blue bricks, resting on a stone Sumeru base.
Boasting a long history and numerous cultural relics, Zhengding counts the Scripture Repository of Chongyin Temple among its treasured historic sites. Exquisitely carved architectural components and splendid painted patterns endow this building with high cultural and relic value.
