The Forbidden City, as an imperial palace, is 961m long from north to south, 753m wide from east to west. With 10-meter-high walls on all sides and a 52-meter-wide moat around it, the Forbidden City is impregnable.
Jingshan Park, facing Beihai in the west and the Shenwu Gate of the Forbidden City in the south, used to be the imperial garden in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The center of the park is Jingshan Mountain, which was once the high point of the city.
