Nestled deep in the heart of Bagong Mountain and adjacent to the famous Sun Family Garden, the Valley of Forgetfulness stretches 2.3 kilometres in a northeast-southwest orientation. It winds upward in countless twists, with a vertical drop of more than 160 metres along the stream bed.
Legend has it that after Sun Pan built the Green Lang Pavilion, he came here to read, paint and find solace amid mountains and rivers, escaping all mortal worries. Struck by the valley’s serene beauty, he carved the two characters “Forget Worry” onto a massive boulder within the valley; the original carving has long vanished with the passage of time.
A winding brook runs through the valley, its gurgling water sounding like soft singing and recitation. On both sides of the gorge stand towering ancient trees growing straight out of jagged rock formations, with clusters of stone pillars of bizarre shapes lining the stream banks. Exotic flowers and rare grasses fill the woods, accompanied by singing birds and fluttering butterflies. It is truly an ideal destination for sightseeing, leisure and summer retreats.
