5. Taoshan Scenic Area

Taoshan Scenic Area lies in central Heilongjiang, on the southern foot of the western Lesser Khingan Range — the hometown of Korean pines — at the northern edge of the Songnen Plain and the upper reaches of the Hulan River. It serves as the southwestern gateway of Yichun City.
Taoshan Forestry Bureau, where the scenic area is located, borders Langxiang Forestry Bureau to the east, Tonghe Forestry Bureau to the south, Shuangfeng Forestry Bureau to the west and Tieli Forestry Bureau to the north. Geographical coordinates: 128°04′–128°42′ East Longitude, 46°40′–47°11′ North Latitude. The Sujia Railway crosses the territory from west to east, and Taoshan Railway Station within the scenic area provides passenger services. Rail and highway transportation networks extend in all directions. Two national defense highways traverse the zone: one runs through Tieli City straight to Yichun City and passes Nancha to reach Jiamusi City; the other two westbound national defense highways lead directly to Harbin, the provincial capital.

Geology and Landforms

The geomorphological framework of the scenic area belongs to the Hercynian folded tectonic belt formed by the Caledonian Orogeny in the Upper Paleozoic Era, composed of granite and basalt. The parent soil material is mainly weathered granite. Mountain topsoil is generally coarse, mostly residual or eluvial parent material mixed with stones and sand. Coarse-grained granite on steep slopes often forms skeletal stony parent material. River lowlands and valley terraces consist of alluvial or sedimentary deposits: sandy soil with pebbles or heavy clay loam mixed with sand.

6. Yichun Granite Stone Forest National Geopark

Located on the northern foot of the Lesser Khingan Range in Yichun, Heilongjiang Province, Yichun Granite Stone Forest National Geopark preserves the most complete, typically developed and richly shaped Indosinian granite stone forest geological relics discovered in China to date. Geological relics refer to geological phenomena formed and preserved by endogenic and exogenic geological forces over geological time.
The granite stone forest scenic area is situated in Tangwanghe District, Yichun — China’s Hometown of Korean Pines. It is the third officially approved national geopark in Heilongjiang Province, following Wudalianchi and Jiayin Dinosaur National Geopark. The massive granite basement of the park formed during the Indosinian Orogeny 200 million years ago, and the modern geomorphological pattern took shape after the Yanshan Movement and Himalayan Orogeny.

Travel Information

Tangwanghe Fantastic Stone Scenic Area is 120 kilometers from downtown Yichun, a roughly 2-hour drive, and 100 kilometers from Jiayin, a national first-class port city bordering Russia. The stone forest sits at an average altitude of 436.6 meters, covering a total area of 163.57 square kilometers, divided into the stone forest landscape zone and mountain-river sightseeing zone. Highlighted by various pictographic fantastic stones formed by geological relics and luxuriant vegetation within the Lesser Khingan Fantastic Stone Zone, it embodies the unique charm shared by national geoparks and national forest parks. It also serves as a youth scientific expedition and adventure base in China.

7. Xing’an National Forest Park

Climb the stone steps toward the clouds to overlook the world; azaleas recall the grand crossing of the Dadu River. Known as "No.1 Park in Northern Frontier", Xing’an National Forest Park is located within Keyihe Town, covering 2,600 hectares as the first botanical garden in forest regions.
Boasting an ingenious design that integrates forest cultivation experiments, scientific research and sightseeing, the park houses more than 420 native and transplanted plant species and raises over 30 wild animal species native to the Greater Khingan Range. From afar, the sculpture "Ten Deer Racing for Spring" shimmers silvery under sunlight, presenting a spectacular view.
The park consists of plant zones, steel cable suspension bridge, Xing’an Pavilion atop the mountain, thousand-step stone staircases and wildlife breeding areas, offering diverse functions including tourism, scientific research, education and fitness.
Upon entering the gate, winding man-made garden paths stretch like yellow ribbons winding through the woods, flanked by over 4,000 spruce and cypress trees leading to the suspension bridge. The park is split into five core zones radiating outward from the suspension bridge: alpine sightseeing zone, arbor and herb viewing zone, introduction zone, transplantation zone and general sightseeing zone. Every spring, azaleas bloom red everywhere, and cuckoos sing of spring all around.

8. Jinshan Town, Yichun

A national AAA-level scenic area, Jinshan Town is the only national-level scenic spot in Heilongjiang Province designated under the concept of a town. Its total forestry management area reaches 184,949 hectares, with the township seat covering 8.41 square kilometers.
Built in 1952 on the southern foot of the Lesser Khingan Range along the middle reaches of the Tangwanghe River, Jinshan Town operates under an integrated government and enterprise system, featuring a temperate continental monsoon climate and a forest coverage rate of 93.3%, with a total population of 50,000.
Blessed with exquisite ecological scenery, rolling varied terrain surrounded by the Tangwanghe River and Dafeng River — two natural waterways winding like giant dragons — the town is enclosed by mountains on four sides and water on three sides, shaped like a beautiful peninsula infused with the vitality of mountains and rivers.
Boasting convenient transportation, Jinshan Town sits between Yichun, Hegang and Jiamusi, serving as a vital thoroughfare connecting five cities and eighteen counties in eastern Heilongjiang. It lies within a one-hour transport circle of Yichun Lindu Airport and Jiamusi Airport. The town abounds in ecological wildlife and plant resources. Vast forests are home to diverse wild animals including red deer, wild boars, black bears, wolves, roe deer and hares. Premium timber varieties such as Korean pine, spruce, birch, oak, elm, ash and Amur cork tree produced here are renowned at home and abroad.

9. Yichun Water Park

Constructed in 1997, Yichun Water Park covers 900,000 square meters, divided into five functional zones: aquatic recreation area, leisure fishing area, cultural entertainment zone, children’s playground and senior activity zone. It contains 56,000 square meters of green space, 18 flower beds, and over 30 varieties of landscaping trees with more than 30,000 planted specimens. In 2001, it was rated one of the Top Ten Square Parks in Heilongjiang Province, winning honors for Yichun, the Forest Capital.
A monument stands as the park’s landmark and the symbol of Yichun, erected by local residents to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the development and construction of Yichun Forest Region. The monument stands 19.98 meters tall, marking its completion in 1998. Its top features two woodpeckers — Yichun’s city bird — surrounding a spherical orb representing the promising future of the Forest Capital. The soaring woodpeckers hold a cross-century sun above their heads, seemingly darting straight to the sky, symbolizing the continuous vigorous development, brilliant prospects and rising prosperity of Yichun Forest Region. The monument shaft is shaped like a thick, straight, upright Korean pine trunk. As Yichun’s city tree, the Korean pine embodies the city’s pine spirit and the selfless, upright and pure noble character of forest dwellers, while also bearing witness to the city’s history.

10. Liangshui National Nature Reserve

Daliang District hosts one of China’s remaining virgin Korean pine forest bases, designated a national nature reserve and a forestry teaching experimental zone for Northeast China. The reserve boasts a forest coverage rate exceeding 95%, with abundant diverse forest types dominated by natural Korean pines, earning it the nickname "Hometown of Little Korean Pines".
