Core Scenic Spots
1. Xilinjiu Bend (Xilin River)
The iconic landscape of the Xilin River. Its winding waterway resembles a jade ribbon, and the sunset views are breathtaking. Free admission.
2. Beizi Temple (4A-level scenic area)
One of the four major temples in Inner Mongolia, a complex of Tibetan Buddhist architecture blending Mongolian, Tibetan and Han styles. Located in the city center; entry is free (20 RMB for visiting the main halls).
3. Site of Xanadu (5A-level scenic area, World Cultural Heritage)
The summer capital of the Yuan Dynasty and the heart of Mongol-Yuan culture, where vast grasslands intertwine with ancient ruins. Situated in Zhenglan Banner.
4. Pingdingshan Volcanic Cluster
A group of flat-topped volcanoes formed by ancient volcanic eruptions, presenting a unique view of volcanoes dotted across grasslands with spectacular sunsets. Around a 30-minute self-drive trip from downtown; ticket price 40 RMB.
5. Ulagai Grassland (Grassland on the Horizon)
Filming location of the movie Wolf Totem, featuring pristine undulating grasslands carpeted with wildflowers. Attractions within include Brin Spring and Khan Mountain.
6. Ujimqin Grassland
A typical untouched primitive grassland known as the "Grassland of Paradise", and the main venue for the Naadam Festival.
