Gaizhou Ginger originates in Gaizhou City, Yingkou, Liaoning Province, with its geographical indication protection scope covering 15 towns, townships and sub-districts including Xutun Town and Guzhou Town. Gaizhou’s unique geographic environment and mild climate endow its ginger with exceptional quality.
Xutun Town is the core ginger production base. Located in the hilly southern Liaoning region, it features a warm temperate continental monsoon climate with four distinct mild seasons, moderate rainfall and abundant sunlight. The locally grown ginger boasts plump, smooth rhizomes. Rich in capsaicin and zingiberone, it carries a strong spicy aroma. Gaizhou Ginger contains higher levels of sugar, protein, fat, cellulose and minerals than comparable ginger varieties.
A multi-purpose vegetable, it serves as seasoning, food processing raw material and herbal medicine. Beyond culinary use, it can be processed into ginger powder, dried ginger, ginger juice, sliced ginger and ginger oil. Low moisture content and thick skin grant it excellent storability and suitability for long-distance transportation. It is sold to major domestic cities and exported to Japan, South Korea, the United States and other countries. Gaizhou currently has 30,000 mu of ginger fields with an annual output of 120,000 tons, making it Liaoning’s largest ginger-producing county with solid national market recognition.
