"Qingyuan Gentian" refers to gentian grown in Qingyuan Manchu Autonomous County, Liaoning Province. Gentian produced in Northeast China, also known as Northern Gentian, is a perennial herb whose roots are used in traditional Chinese medicine, with gentiopicroside as its core medicinal ingredient.
Gentian from Qingyuan Manchu Autonomous County is a local premium medicinal herb. Its gentiopicroside content is 5 to 9 times the minimum standard specified in the Pharmacopoeia for medicinal use. Besides abundant wild gentian, artificial cultivation in managed fields began as early as the late 20th century.
