Overlooking the mighty Yangtze River, Beigushan Hill features steep cliffs and rugged terrain, hence its name. It is the setting of the classic Three Kingdoms tale "Liu Bei’s Marriage at Ganlu Temple". Xin Qiji, a patriotic poet of the Southern Song Dynasty, climbed the hill and wrote the timeless line: "Where can I gaze upon my homeland? Only boundless views greet me atop Beigu Tower."
