In Huaihe Town, Xuyi County, 1 kilometer west of the county seat across the Huaihe River. Flourishing in the Tang’s Kaiyuan era and submerged in the Qing’s Kangxi period, it was a major Huaihe River basin city with 900 years of glory. Submerged for over 300 years, it is well-preserved in silt and water, with intact inner/outer walls, five gates, four streets, and defensive structures. Known as the Oriental Pompeii, it is a valuable heritage site for archaeology and tourism, designated a National Key Cultural Relic Protection Unit.
