Located at the southern edge of the Sichuan Basin, where Sichuan, Chongqing, and Guizhou meet, Hejiang stands at the confluence of the Yangtze and Chishui rivers. It is the first port on the Yangtze River as it leaves Sichuan.
A land of abundant natural resources and ancient culture, Hejiang boasts numerous historical relics. These include a 2,000-meter-long section of the
Ming Dynasty city wall in the urban area, the
Qing Dynasty White Pagoda (a symbol of the ancient county), and ruins of ancient county seats from the Tang and Song dynasties.
Other historic sites are
Yuntai Temple (Sui Dynasty),
Fawang Temple (a southern Sichuan ancient Buddhist temple), the
Ming Dynasty Liubei Pool Carvings, and well-preserved
Qing Dynasty streets and residences.
