Jiufeng Temple in Pengxi County, also commonly called White Pagoda Temple, is an ancient Buddhist complex integrating a pagoda and temple buildings. Perched on Jiufeng Mountain, the site features elegant terrain and dense vegetation, resembling a divine garuda bird.
To the left of the temple stands a 13-storey square brick pagoda of the pavilion style. First built in the Jiatai reign of the Song Dynasty and reconstructed during 1196 to 1200, it was expanded repeatedly through the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties.
Facing south, the temple covers a land area of 3,724 square meters and a floor area of 760 square meters. Its architectures combine styles from the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, unifying halls, towers, pavilions and classical gardens. The main buildings include the Hall of Heavenly Kings, Mahavira Hall, Vairocana Hall and Guanyin Hall. The Hall of Heavenly Kings was relocated to the tranquil island in Chicheng Lake in 1983. This temple is recorded in A History of Chinese Architecture written by Liang Sicheng.
