Ranked among China’s five major pastoral areas, Qiangtang lies between the Kunlun Mountains, Tanggula Mountains and Gangdise Range. It is not only a paradise for wild flora and fauna, but also a land steeped in profound cultural heritage. On the boundless grassland, yaks and flocks of sheep sustain local herdsmen, and tents can be seen everywhere. The nomadic culture nurtured here is gorgeous and dreamlike.
The area boasts ancient rock paintings and numerous ruins of the ancient Zhangzhung Kingdom. Legends and traces of the heroic King Gesar spread across northern Xizang. Mani piles, prayer flags and ancient pagodas dot the landscape, lending a mystical vibe to the vast wilderness. The ancient Tang-Tubo Road runs through the grassland from north to south.
