- May–June / Sep–Oct: Prime season; 15–28°C, comfortable, fewer tourists, fresh fruits (Li Guang apricots, melons).
- July–August: Peak summer; 35–40°C days, cool nights, perfect for sunsets and stargazing; book tickets 1 month early.
- Nov–Mar: Winter; -10–10°C, few crowds, discounted tickets; Mogao allows 12 caves (vs. 8 in peak)
