Also known as Dazhi Mountain, Taizi Mountain spans Hezheng County and Linxia County. It is the general name for the lofty mountain ranges south of Linxia County and east of the Daxia River. The mountain consists of the East Taizi Peak (4,368 meters above sea level) and the West Taizi Peak (4,183 meters above sea level). The mountain pass between them is a strategic stronghold, easy to defend yet hard to capture. It marks the boundary between Linxia and Xiahe County, and serves as a cultural link connecting the Central Plains and the snowy plateau regions. It was a vital military fortress throughout history. Legend has it that Fusu, the eldest son of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, once stationed troops and fought battles here, hence the mountain's name.
The main peak reaches an altitude of 4,336 meters. Its white rocky summit glistens in the sun, with permanent snow covering the exposed rock all year round, earning it the nickname "Snowy Mountain". The mountain is listed as the third of the Eight Scenic Sights of Hezhou — Snow-capped Bare Rocks.
Endowed with abundant mineral resources, Taizi Mountain is a natural treasure trove. Crystal-clear springs gush through dense forests, absorbing the essence of plants and the radiance of the sun and moon. It is a natural habitat for the giant salamander, a national Class II protected animal. Amid the green mountains and clear waters stand ancient temples with carved beams, painted rafters and upturned eaves. Melodious Hua'er folk songs echo across the land, letting visitors escape the hustle and bustle of the world and embrace the tranquility of nature.
