Depart from Xi’an, Shaanxi → cross Xianyang → travel west along the eastern section of the Silk Road → climb the Longshan Mountains → pass Tianshui, Longxi and Lintao in Gansu to Linxia → cross the Yellow River at Bingling Temple or Dahejia → enter Guanting in Minhe County, Qinghai → travel through Gushan, Ledu and Xining → ascend the Riyue Mountains → cross the Daotang River → reach Chabqia (Princess Buddha Hall) → pass Qiji Grassland, Daheba, Wenquan and Huashixia → follow the Yellow River shore → skirt around Zhaling Lake and Eling Lake → cross the Bayan Har Mountains → pass Qingshuihe in Yushu → cross the Tongtian River westward → reach Jiegu Batang → follow the Ziqu River upstream to Zaduo → proceed along the main road to Xizang → cross the Dangqu River and the Tanggula Pass → arrive at Nierong and Nagqu in Xizang, and finally reach Lhasa.
