Introduction to Attractions of Tiantai Mountain Scenic Area, Taizhou City
Guoqing Temple
First built in the 18th year of the Kaihuang reign of the Sui Dynasty, it boasts a history of over 1,400 years and is the birthplace of the Tiantai School of Buddhism. The ancient temple features simple yet elegant architecture set in a tranquil environment. Inside stands a thousand-year-old Sui plum tree alongside numerous ancient buildings, allowing visitors to appreciate the profound and extensive Buddhist culture.
Tiantai Mountain Grand Waterfall
With a total drop of 325 meters and a maximum width of 100 meters, it is hailed as China’s tallest waterfall. Layer upon layer of cascades surge down majestically from a misty fairyland. The great poet Li Bai once depicted its spectacular grandeur in verse:
I would not dwell in dragon palaces and phoenix towers;
My spirit soars straight to Tiantai Mountain’s bowers.
Stone Beam Waterfall
Known as "the No.1 Wonder Under Heaven", the waterfall gains its magic from the natural stone beam, while the beam is made breathtaking by the plunging cascade. Water thunders down the high cliff with overwhelming momentum. The stone beam bridge is an extremely rare natural granite arch bridge in the world, leaving all visitors marveling at nature’s craftsmanship.
Huading National Forest Park
Famed as a "natural oxygen bar", it is an ideal resort where visitors can view azaleas in spring, escape the summer heat, watch sunrise in autumn and admire snow scenery in winter. It features rare rime ice rarely seen in southern China and mountains blanketed with Rhododendron fortunei. The park abounds with ancient trees including old pines, podocarpuses and cryptomerias, and hosts a rich diversity of plants. Tourists may also taste local cloud-and-mist tea here.
Qiongtai Immortal Valley
Renowned for its grand, exotic, graceful and secluded scenery, the valley is shaded by lush green trees and threaded by murmuring brooks, presenting delightful vistas. It features distinctive granite landforms with interwoven mountains and waters, resembling an earthly paradise — this is the fairyland where Li Bai once roamed and composed immortal poems
