Introduction
Lichun
On February 4th, people across China will celebrate Lichun, or the Beginning of Spring, which refers to the day when the Sun is exactly at the celestial longitude of 315°.
Based on the movement of the sun, the calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms to guide farming over the four seasons, in which Lichun leads the first term. It usually begins around February 4 and ends around February 19.
※Three Pentads
Each solar term can be divided into 3 pentads. Pentads in Lichun include: east wind thaw (东风解冻in Chinese), hibernating insects awaken (蛰虫始振in Chinese), and fish swim upward near ice (鱼陟负冰in Chinese).
※Traditions
The day is usually marked with certain specific traditions:
Yingchun-Welcoming spring, people in China hold a special ceremony on the first day of the Beginning of Spring dating from 3,000 years. They make sacrifices to Gou Mang, the God of Grain, which is an important folk activity of Lichun.

Yaochun-Bite the spring, people often eat radishes, spring pancakes and spring rolls (rolls wrapped around fresh vegetables and meat) to celebrate the arrival of spring. Steamed bread and bean buns are also eaten on Lichun as the New Year draws near.
Dachunniu-Beat the spring cattle, people uses a colorful club or a whip to beat an earthen cattle after worshiping the God of Grain to dispel laziness nd pray for a good harvest. In ancient China, Start of Spring is when farmers begin their work in the field after a long winter break.
Beihai Park
Tachun- Spring is a good time for health care as China enters spring gradually after Lichun. At this time, spring outing or flying a kite are good activities.
